2026-07-10 –, Open Social Space
This will be a relaxed space to bring your device and try out some of the latest software from the Nostr ecosystem with DWeb friends. I'll have a few slides to orient people who are onboarding for the first time, but most of the time will be left for unstructured exploration of various Nostr apps.
Nostr is the smaller more anarchic cousin of DWeb staples like AT Protocol and ActivityPub. 3 years into its development people are continuing to experiment with everything from public microblogging to private community space, alternative networking stacks to couch surfing, highly secure messaging with MLS and wild AI orchestration experiments. The protocol is designed to be the simplest decentralized architecture that works and to lean on other protocols and standards wherever possible rather than reinventing the wheel. It remains one of the few DWeb protocols that is not managed by a company or formal governance structure and originated in the Global South.
Matt is a veteran of the decentralized social web, from Tent to Scuttlebutt to Nostr, working to help humanity take back our means of communication and organize our way out of the polycrisis.
