From Blood to Bits: Building a Decentralized Truth
2026-07-09 , Resilience Base

To understand why Taiwan is at the forefront of digital democracy, you must understand the price we paid. Our "Anti-Authoritarian Stack" was not built in a lab; it was forged in the fire of sacrifice and the silence of injustice.

The ghosts of authoritarianism never truly left; they simply changed their tactics. In 2026, a film titled Murder of the Century attempted to revisit the Lin family massacre. But instead of seeking truth, it sought to distort it. By framing a state-sponsored tragedy as a fictional mystery and shifting the blame onto victims of the era, this project, allegedly backed by authoritarian interests, represented a modern "Information Massacre." It reminds us that if we do not guard our history, those with power will rewrite it to serve their agenda.

The 1980s, the Lin Family Mansion Massacre showed us the horror of centralized power, where dissent was met with the brutal erasure of a family. In 1989, Cheng Nan-jung chose to self-immolate to demand "100% freedom of expression. His sacrifice left an indelible mark on the Taiwanese soul: a deep-seated distrust of any single authority claiming to own "The Truth."

In an era of digital authoritarianism, centralized platforms and disinformation seek to drown out reality. This is where Cofacts comes in. It is more than just a bot; it is a vital component of our Anti-Authoritarian Stack. Cofacts provides a tool to resist authority by empowering a community of volunteers to verify and archive information. We don't look for a single leader to tell us what is real. Instead, we empower every citizen to participate in the creation of a Decentralized Truth.

In Taiwan, we have learned that the only way to safeguard democracy is to make the truth something that belongs to everyone, and controlled by no one. We honor the sacrifice of our predecessors by having the freedom they died for is protected by the code we write today.
