Personal Digital Archiving: note-taking and storytelling practices for preserving our most meaningful memories
2026-07-09 , Creativity Lounge

An experiential workshop where participants will have an opportunity to share, learn about and put into practice note-taking and storytelling techniques to preserve some of their DWeb Camp experiences — and beyond.

Over the last several months I’ve been practicing being more intentional about what I do with the photos, videos and other digital artifacts that are created while travelling or on trips (including trips like coming to DWeb camp!)

What I’ve been doing is incorporating these artifacts into a digital journal, effectively creating blog-like entries for each day of my trips. This practice has helped me engage more intentionally with my surroundings while traveling. It also leaves me with a well crafted account of my trip, helping with integrating the experiences, reflecting on them in the future, and sharing the journey with friends and family.

It is a deeply meaningful and an ever evolving practice and the purpose of this workshop is to share it with others and also learn from others about their own archival practices.

The rough structure will be an initial overview of my own practice and experience with it then an open discussion about other participants practices. This will be followed by period where participants can practice going through their existing photos/memories (and any other artifacts) from their trip to Berlin and DWeb camp so far and crafting them into a personal account within their note taking app of choice.

We will end by encouraging everyone to continue the practice for the rest of camp, with an optional informal follow up near the end of camp.

My hope is to help others connect more intentionally with how they archive their own life experiences and discover maintainable practices to do so throughout life.

Additionally, I hope this helps participants transition off of modern social media and move towards simpler, local-first and private means of digitally archiving life experiences.
