Lets be silly! This session we'll be on our feet playing games and telling stories together. All human shaped monkeys welcome. No experience required. Session may contain traces of laughter.
Improv is the art of collective storytelling. Its all about learning to connect to each other and react spontaneously. Not as the (veryyyy clever) adults we all are. But as playful, curious humans.
Improv was invented to help us un-learn all the horrible lessons schools teach. "Sit down and be quiet" -> No, lets move and be loud. "Know the right answer" -> What is there is no right answer?
Its sort of a weird form of social meditation. Improv makes us practice living in the moment and being present with whats going on. But we do it in front of an audience, while connecting with the other people around us. Aah I could say so many words about why its great. It helped me get over my shyness. It makes us funnier and more charismatic. It helped me get over my annoying habit of trying to be right and clever all the time. It helps us tell better stories, and it makes us better presenters. Its great, 10/10 come along. Especially if you've never done it before. Doubly so if it sounds a bit scary! (I promise you, you'll be in wonderful company.)
I'm quite disappointed with the modern world. Everyone is so boring. And our technology is so boring too! Even I got boring through most of my life. I've been on a big journey recently discovering how freeing it is to be wrong and bad at things. I love technology which pulls us together as a community, not atomises us. I've also got a background in armchair therapy, spirituality and CRDTs.
