atdojo - Online Game Matchmaking & Replay Sharing in the Atmosphere
2026-07-10 , Open Social Space

The retro fighting game community relies on centralized services for matchmaking and replay sharing, posing risks of disruption by the whims of game companies and load-bearing hobbyist projects. This talk will explore the design and implementation of atdojo in Dojo Lobby, a matchmaking platform for emulated Sega Dreamcast and Model 3 games online.

Around the world, there is an avid community of retro fighting game competitors that frequently plays, organizes, and stream games over services like Fightcade, Start.gg and Twitch. While the Atmosphere currently has solutions for event invitations and video streaming in the form of Atmo.rsvp and Stream.place, online matchmaking & replay sharing is still reliant on centralized services that may be subject to shut down at any time, either by game companies or hobbyists.

Through a compatible lobby interface, atdojo allows players to broadcast their presence, share live progress of matches, and store replays for others to revisit for training purposes. Atdojo integration is currently being incorporated in Dojo Lobby a matchmaking platform for Sega Dreamcast, Atomiswave, and Sega Model 3 games, and will be used as the reference implementation for this talk.
