Reconfigurable Computing is Coming
2026-07-11 , Idea Stage

Reconfigurable computing promises orders of magnitude increases in computing ability, in addition to substantial power savings. This talk provides an introduction to the subject, along with different kinds of computational paradigms that are "coming of age" or "on the horizon".

This talk goes into what reconfigurable computing is, how it is currently used, and where it could go. Alternative computing architetures are also explored. It is meant to be an introduction to a wider breadth of concepts and trends, rather than an explicit deep dive.

The concepts discussed are technical in nature, but every attempt is made to make this accessible. This is not a talk that requires a computer science background.

Rob lives on a forested property outside of Winnipeg MB Canada with his wife, his dog, and many musical instruments. He has a background in computer science. He's helped build and run technology related for-profit and not-for-profit organizations, including the local hackerspace, Unix user group, and numerous startups.
