An overview of Onion Services, and how it can be helpful for the DWeb community.
Onion Services is a unique communication technology for the internet with several interesting properties:
- Safe by default (built-in end-to-end encryption).
- Fits everyone in (supports a huge number of addresses without allocation authority).
- It's robust (has built-in resistance against surveillance, censorship and denial of service).
- Also works as an anonymization layer.
The first part of the session will cover:
- An introduction to Tor and Onion Services.
- How Onion Services can be a transport system for the DWeb.
- Prospects and planned improvements in the technology.
In the second part, both developers and the general audience are invited to talk, either by making questions or starting a discussion on existing and potential uses of Onion Services within the DWeb context.
No previous knowledge of Tor or Onion Services is necessary.
Works as Onion Service Site Reliability Engineer at The Tor Project.
